Zoo Day

On Saturday Luke went to the zoo for the first time!

The Oregon Zoo was super crowded because everyone wanted to see the new baby elephant that had just been born earlier in the week. This was the first day the baby elephant would be on view. But we did not have time to wait in the long line.

Luke saw many other animals instead. Like this giraffe.

And a polar bear doing the backstroke.

And baboons.

Luke studied the baboon very closely.

Luke wanted to grab this Amazon fish! I think the fish wanted to grab Luke, too.

Seeing the bats hanging upside-down gave Luke an idea.

No babies were harmed in the making of this photo.

Luke is very comfortable being upside-down.

And a picture from today of Luke and Mama.
Luke was very smiley today. He has started to make a different kind of smiley face. He'll crinkle up his nose, show his upper gums, and squint his eyes. It is very cute.

My New Favorite Photo

Here is my new favorite photo of all time.
This was at a birthday party. Luke had never seen a cupcake before but he practically ripped this one out of my hand and put it to his mouth. Somehow he knew what to do with a cupcake.

Here is Luke hanging out in the crib.

And after a relaxing bath.

Also dann, Pfiat di!
Und viele liebe Gruesse an Tante Irene und Tante Marianne und Petra und Silke und Stefan und Thomas und Bruno und Marie-Theres und Martin und der kleine Martin und Tobias und Florian.

Sweet Boy

I realized that I didn't take any pictures of Luke this week, so here are some pictures taken tonight after his bath and right before we tried to make him go to sleep. He was in a good mood for about 2 minutes. Maybe it was all for the camera.

First Spoonfuls

Tomorrow Luke will be 5 months old, so we decided to try some rice cereal for the first time. Here is Luke right before his first spoonful. He is wondering what is happening.
Second or third spoonful.
Yum! It's pretty good, when I can keep it in my mouth!
More, please.

Here's a video.

And some random pictures from the other night when Luke would not go to bed.

Watchin' some tube.

Olympics-Watching Party

Uncle Matt and Aunt Zoe came over to watch the Olympics on Sunday night. Here are some pictures. Luke was really excited about the Olympics!

Luke was inspired by the swimming and diving events.
He decided to take to the water himself.
Here he is saying, "I freakin' LOVE rubber duckies!"

Seriously, he goes crazy for rubber duckies.

More Pictures

Luke and Mama reading a book before bed.
It was hot last week so Luke slept in nothing but his diaper

Not the same night as the previous picture, here is Luke surprising me by falling asleep on the floor as we were talking about our day. He has recently started rolling over in his crib and sleeping on his stomach.

Luke in his crib.
Luke on the floor laughing at Papa.

These last pictures are from today. We spent a lot of time outside cleaning up the yard while Luke took a nap in his stroller. Here is the pergola and flagstone patio Matt built last year.
Closeup of Luke being silly.
Luke and Roosevelt. Roosevelt is surprisingly patient around Luke.
Luke loves to go around the garden and look at flowers and feel leaves. He is very gentle with the flowers and leaves and doesn't try to put them in his mouth.
I included this last picture because Matt thought that Luke looked like his Dad.
